We go into schools. We sit with Grade 12 learners. We tell them everything we wish someone had told us — about university, about NSFAS, about their options. Then we listen.
Too many Grade 12 learners in under-resourced communities finish school without knowing what comes next. Not because they lack potential — but because no one came to explain the options. Beyond Matric is EEA's answer to that.
We send teams of EEA members and ambassadors into schools in Gauteng, North West, and wherever we are invited — to deliver practical, honest sessions on university applications, NSFAS funding, subject choices, career pathways, and what economic literacy actually means for a young person's life.
Step-by-step guidance on how to apply, what to expect, and which institutions suit different learners.
Demystifying the funding process for first-generation university students and their families.
Helping learners understand which subjects unlock which career pathways before it's too late to change.
Practical knowledge about money, opportunity, and how economies work — starting right where they are.
Our inaugural Beyond Matric visit. EEA went to Jericho in the North West — making this our first cross-provincial outreach event. EEA ambassadors and committee members facilitated the sessions — including Molatelo Thoka (serving as an Ambassador at the time, now Academic Officer), alongside Zintle and Khanyisile.
EEA members organised a car wash fundraiser to cover the costs of travelling to Jericho. This is what community-funded outreach looks like — students raising their own resources to serve other students.
EEA committee members and ambassadors turned out to raise funds for the Jericho trip. Community support made the visit possible.
Every rand raised went directly toward transport, printed materials, and refreshments for the learners at Madiba A Toloane.
Jessica Mathonsi, serving as Deputy Chairperson at the time, delivered the closing address at our inaugural Beyond Matric event at Madiba A Toloane High School in 2025.
In 2026, EEA expanded its Beyond Matric programme into Soshanguve — visiting two schools in one day. Soshanguve South Secondary was the first stop. With over 150 learners reached across both Soshanguve schools, this was EEA's largest single-day outreach to date.
The second school visited on EEA's 2026 Soshanguve outreach day. Seageng Secondary rounded out a full day of engagement with Grade 12 learners — and the energy in that hall is captured in the video below. This was filmed by the EEA team and shows what the programme looks and feels like in practice.
Beyond Matric is not a motivational talk. Every session delivers tangible, practical information that learners can act on immediately.
A step-by-step guide to applying to university — what documents are needed, where to submit, and when deadlines fall.
Plain-language explanation of who qualifies, how to apply, and what NSFAS covers — demystifying the biggest barrier to university access.
Peer-to-peer engagement with EEA students who came from similar backgrounds — showing learners that university is for them too.
We are actively expanding Beyond Matric to more schools across Gauteng and beyond. If you are a teacher, principal, or community member who wants EEA to visit your school — reach out.
